Each year, the Keowee Key Golf and Country Club hosts a group of around 40 Marines as part of a “Honoring Their Service” event.
The group hails from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. along with the South Carolina “Wounded Warrior Regiment”.
The festivities start with an extended parade with hundreds of motor cycle riders accompanying the group as a colorful honor guard and escort along with literally thousands of South Carolinians waving flags, tooting horns and showing their appreciation.
All are here for some well deserved rest, relaxation and fun.
The residents of Keowee Key welcome these soldiers into their homes each year and honor them with with a formal dinner and extend to them loving hospitality and the full use of the community’s extensive amenities.
Residents volunteer their boats, fishing gear, personal water crafts and golf clubs to insure these Marines have a great time.
The soldiers enjoy beautiful lake Keowee with water skiing, kayaking, personal watercrafts and fishing . They also enjoy golf, tennis, pickleball, hiking and more.
It is a heart warming event that nourishes both the Marines and the residents each year.
